What Doctors Don’t Tell You (WDDTY) Competition

I can’t remember who noticed that WDDTY were running a little competition a week or so ago, but I thought it would be fun to enter! The details on their Facebook page read as follows:

ANSWER THE QUESTION AND WIN!
Show your creative skills, and you could be among the five winners of a year’s subscription to WDDTY magazine!

All you need to do is Like our Facebook Page and answer this question: The current slogan of What Doctors Don’t Tell You (WDDTY) magazine is: “Take control of your own health”. Can you think of a slogan or saying that better captures the benefits of WDDTY?

After answering, you will need to get the maximum amount of votes from your Facebook friends and WDDTY Facebook fans. The participants whose slogans attract the five highest number of ‘likes’ or votes will win a year’s subscription to the magazine. That means the next 12 issues will be delivered to your home — wherever you are in the world — free of charge.

Let your creativity take flight — and you could start having WDDTY delivered to your home for a year for free!

As you can see, this is open to skeptical activism. I wasn’t particularly creative, but I did want something that would make it past the censors. And there are censors. A couple of skeptical entries were removed within minutes.

What you can do

Here’s the thing. The competition ends tonight (at 11.55 on the 14th of April 2013) and I don’t want them to have any excuse to remove the entires that are critical and in the top 5.

We want you to enter as many skeptically angled ideas as possible. This will keep them busy and with any luck, do one of two things. One, force them to remove the competition. Which would be great. Or 2; They’ll have to honour the results and supply me and others with a years supply of WDDTY/toilet paper/cat litter tray liner.

If you can knock me out of the top 3, I’ll provide a special prize (probably a signed book of some sort).

All you have to do is think of something. Add it, remember to vote for yourself (!) and other skeptics on the list.

You’ll need to allow the program access to your basic profile info to enter, but once you’ve done that you can remove it straight after.

I wish you all good luck!

I’ll update you on any detail during the day.

——– UPDATE 15/04/2013 ———

The competition has now ended and 4 of the top 5 entries are probably not exactly what they were looking for! I’ll write this up with some detail tomorrow, but a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who entered and voted. This is skeptical activism handed to us on a plate!!

I played by their rules, as did all the other entrants. I expect WDDTY to honour this competitions rules.

[…] sight to behold! How did they really think that some of those were genuine entrants‽ I know in my appeal for skeptical entries to the competition I said that you needed to be subtle, but well played David Bradley, Catherine Flint and Peter […]
